The Houston Astros organization continues to be, well, rotten. According to TMZ Sports, the Astros have blocked the auction of a 2017 World Series ring benefiting charity.
The ring, which originally belonged to Astros scout David Brito, was listed with Goldin Auctions, and it was expected to sell for at least $60,000 with the proceeds going to coronavirus relief efforts.
Now, the Astros put in the contract that they do have the option to purchase the ring back for $1, but how low do they have to be? After all, they did defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers in that World Series by cheating... so they really don't deserve the rings at all.
The ring contains 214 diamonds, 16 blue sapphires and nine orange sapphires...so it's expensive.
The Astros' sign-stealing scandal was debunked months ago, and they received a $5 million fine, were docked two first- and second-round draft picks, and suspended Jeff Luhnow and A.J. Hinch for one year, who have since been fired by the organization.
If the Astros has any sense of decency, then they'd let this ring be auctioned for charity, not taken back for a mere dollar.
