Houston Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez has been a centerpiece in the lineup since his debut for the club in 2019.

Over the past seven seasons, Alvarez has established himself as one of baseball’s best power hitters. He won Rookie of the Year honors in 2019 unanimously, earned three All-Star selections, and was instrumental in leading the Astros to a World Series championship in 2022. His dynamic offensive skills have made him a fan favorite and a critical part of Houston’s success.

Currently, the Astros sit atop the AL West with an impressive 45–33 record. Although the team’s offense is ranked 12th in OPS this season, there is a sense of excitement that the team can reach new heights once Alvarez returns to the lineup.

Alvarez is currently on the injured list due to a right hand fracture that has effected him since May 3, causing him to miss 47 games entering Tuesday. Despite this setback, the Astros revealed that there are signs of positive progress.

On Sunday, the star slugger worked on his recovery by swinging a bat off the tee, and he is scheduled to continue these rehab drills today.

Reflecting on his remarkable 2024 season, Alvarez was nothing short of dominant. In 147 games, he smashed 35 home runs, drove in 86 RBIs, maintained a .308 batting average, and registered an OPS of .959.

His performance earned him a 9th-place finish in MVP voting, even as the Astros clinched the AL West title—although their playoff run was cut short with a sweep by the Detroit Tigers in the Wild Card Series. With Alvarez poised to rejoin the lineup soon, Houston’s offense is expected to grow even more formidable, raising hopes for an even brighter finish to this season.
