Astros pitcher Jake Odorizzi carted off with leg injury

Houston Astros pitcher Jake Odorizzi was carted off the field at Fenway Park on Monday after suffering a leg injury in the fifth inning against the Boston Red Sox.

Odorizzi, 32, forced Red Sox center fielder Kiké Hernández to ground into the third out of the fifth inning, but the pitcher went down after running off the mound to cover first.

The Astros signed Odorizzi in 2021, two years removed from the pitcher earned his first career All-Star nod during his 2019 season with the Minnesota Twins. Odorizzi struggled in his first season with Houston, finishing the year with a 6-7 record and a 4.21 ERA.

After a slow start to the 2022 season, Odorizzi earned the win in each of his last three starts. With only one earned run through five innings against the Red Sox on Monday, Odorizzi dropped his ERA on the season to 3.13. He's allowed just two runs in his last 22.2 innings on the mound.

Houston is first in the AL West with a 23-12 record and have allowed 3.17 runs per game, third lowest in MLB.
