Astros' Superstar Hints At Monster Season
Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports

It's easy to get wrapped up in the offseason moves, or lack thereof, when it comes to free agency, and the dormant winter the Houston Astros have had can be frustrating.

After all, they were eliminated in the playoffs before having the opportunity to defend their World Series championship in the Fall Classic, an indication they might need some upgrades.

But, the Astros already have a roster in "win now" mode, with players returning who are hungry to get back to the mountain top.

One in particular is their superstar third baseman, Alex Bregman, who alluded to having a potentially monster offensive season during his conversation with Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.

By now, everyone knows the situation surrounding Bregman and his impending free agency after the 2024 season finishes.

Yet, he's not letting that cloud how his viewpoint of this year.

"I’m approaching the season like I want to play the best year of my career and have the best season I’ve ever had, and let everything fall where it falls," Bregman said.

So, how might the two-time All-Star, coming off a season with a slash line of .262/.363/.441, 25 home runs and 98 RBI, accomplish that?

He tells McTaggart he's been rigorously training this offseason without rehabbing an injury for the first time in a few years. He's been working on building his body and his swing in the batting cage for hours upon hours a day.

"Physically I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life, mechanically with my swing, and being able to hit in the offseason for the first time in maybe four years has been amazing," he said.

Bregman has been one of the best hitters at his position throughout his career, even though he's only won one Silver Slugger award.

His OPS+ of 135 proves that.

However, since his last All-Star game selection in 2019, it feels like the third baseman has been a bit overlooked.

Bregman has proven he's an elite player, but is ready to remind people of how good he is and how good he can be.
