Athletics Claim Taylor Rashi

The Athletics have claimed right-hander Taylor Rashi off waivers from the Twins, per an announcement from the A’s.

The A’s are the third organization of the season for Rashi, who first changed hands when the Diamondbacks traded him to the Twins for cash considerations in early June. Rashi never pitched for the Twins, instead spending the past two months at Triple-A St. Paul. After Rashi pitched to a 4.76 ERA with a 28.7% strikeout rate and an 11.3% walk rate in 17 innings, the Twins booted him from their 40-man roster. They needed the spot in order to promote shortstop prospect Kaelen Culpepper to the bigs on Friday.

With his time in the Minnesota organization officially up, Rashi is heading to an A’s team desperate for pitching and in possession of the league’s worst bullpen ERA (5.68). However, given that Rashi has a full slate of minor league options remaining, it is unclear if he will immediately join their roster. The 30-year-old has only thrown 20 innings in the majors, including 3 2/3 with the D-backs this year. While averaging around 91 mph on his fastball, Rashi has recorded a 5.40 ERA with a 29.9% strikeout rate and a 10.3% walk rate in the bigs. He has logged a much more impressive 3.22 ERA in 114 2/3 Triple-A frames.
