Athletics sign former All-Star Jake Lamb

Ahead of Monday's doubleheader versus the Seattle Mariners, the Oakland Athletics confirmed that the club has acquired free-agent infielder Jake Lamb.

The Arizona Diamondbacks designated the one-time All-Star for assignment last Thursday.

Lamb, 29, earned the first and only All-Star nod of his career during the 2017 campaign when he hit 30 home runs and finished the year with a career-best 105 RBI. He's never reclaimed that form since, however, and he hit .116 with five base hits, one RBI, a single double and 17 strikeouts in 18 games and 43-at bats before Arizona released him.

As noted by the Associated Press and ESPN, Oakland is in need of depth with both Matt Chapman and Chad Pinder sidelined due to injuries. Oakland began the day in first place in the American League West with a 29-17 record. The A's are 6.5 games ahead of the Houston Astros in the division standings.
