The Athletics continued to struggle on the diamond as they lost their 10th consecutive game last night. What started as a promising season has gone up in flames in recent days. The team’s losing streak began with two losses against the Los Angeles Dodgers, three more against the San Francisco Giants, four losses against the Los Angeles Angels, and one against the Phillies. They have been outscored by their opponent 76-29 over their last 10 games. Will the Athletics get in the win column soon?

Following a 22-20 start to the regular season, the Athletics proceeded to drop 10 straight contests. They are in last place in the American League West at 22-30. The team’s offense has been surprisingly good this season. They are ninth in batting average , seventh in home runs, and 14th in runs scored. A few payers have stood out on offense. Shortstop Jacob Wilson is fourth in batting average. Right Fielder Brent Rooker is top 20 in the league in home runs.
The issue for the Athletics has been a putrid pitching staff. They are 27th in ERA, 27th in opposing batting average, and 27th in WHIP. Even though the team has had a solid offense, they have been unable to overcome such a poor performance from their pitching staff.
The Athletics return to the diamond tonight against the Philadelphia Phillies looking to avoid their 11th straight win. The franchise must rebound and attempt to recapture what led to a strong start to the regular season.
