The season of nightmares has, unfortunately, continued for the Atlanta Braves. Third Baseman Austin Riley was placed on the injured list with an abdominal strain after a diving tag against the Reds. This trip to the injured list is the second one for Austin Riley in the last two months, and this injury makes the Atlanta Braves’ season even worse. They are probably thinking ahead to 2026 after this news.
The Braves are 47-63 and 15.5 games out of first place in the NL East. They aren’t making the playoffs, so why would they rush Austin Riley back? If anything, the Braves should call up any young players or players on their roster they want answers on. Would it be a bad idea to shut down Riley for the rest of the season, depending on how bad his injury is? Braves fans might not like to hear it, but it could be what’s best for the player and the team.
Shutting down key players for the rest of the season is going to be a frustrating thought for Atlanta fans based on their expectations for this season. They were expected to be competing for a division title and compete for a playoff run, but injuries have been their downfall. Sometimes in baseball, a team can have horrible injury luck, which is an unfortunate part of sports.
Some key names that have spent time on the injured list for the Braves include Chris Sale, Ronald Acuna Jr., Grant Holmes, and a few of their key starters in the rotation. Those names listed above are some of, if not the most talented, players on the team. The tough part is that injuries are a part of baseball. The Atlanta Braves should look toward next season.
