Atlanta Braves Player Gets Released After Jurickson Profar News

Although the Atlanta Braves (63–77) are set to miss the postseason in 2025, Jurickson Profar appears to be a key part of the team’s future over the next two seasons.

Profar joined the Braves in the offseason on a three-year $42 million contract, expected to play a major role in the team’s playoff push. That plan was derailed early, as he was suspended for 80 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance just four games into his Atlanta tenure.

By the time Profar returned, the Braves were well outside playoff contention, and his absence was felt. He received a mixed reaction of boos and cheers in his first game back at Truist Park.

Profar was placed on the paternity list Tuesday and missed the final two games of the series against the Chicago Cubs.

On Thursday, the Braves announced a flurry of roster moves, including Profar’s reinstatement. His return pushed infielder Luke Williams off the roster, and he was designated for assignment.

The team wrote, "The #Braves today reinstated OF Jurickson Profar from the paternity list and recalled RHP Daysbel Hernández to Atlanta. The club also designated INF Luke Williams for assignment and released RHP Cal Quantrill from the roster. Additionally, RHP Wander Suero was claimed off waivers by the New York Mets."

Williams’ release does not come as a surprise. He was primarily used as a pinch runner and posted a .153 batting average and .427 OPS across three seasons with Atlanta.

Profar is expected to return to the lineup Friday against the Seattle Mariners, hoping to continue proving his worth as the Braves look to build momentum for 2026.

The 32-year-old veteran has been working to regain the trust of Braves fans and has delivered on the field, batting .258 with a .362 on-base percentage, .834 OPS, 12 home runs and 37 RBIs across 58 games.

Atlanta appears set on a quick rebound for next season. Williams’ release also coincided with the addition of Ha-Seong Kim, who was claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this week.

Kim and Profar were teammates on the San Diego Padres last season and will look to recapture the same postseason success they had in San Diego with the Braves.
