Atlanta Braves release details for BravesVision

The Atlanta Braves on Wednesday announced details for BravesVision. According to the Braves X account, BravesVision will:

“produce more than 140 games, as well as extensive pre-game and post-game programming, throughout the 2026 regular season and give fans across the organization’s six state territory multiple options to watch Braves games without blackouts.”

A subscription to BravesVision will cost $99.99 for the whole season, with a monthly subscription announced closer to Opening Day.

The Braves are doing the same thing as the New York Yankees and the YES Network

The Braves’ launching their own streaming service to broadcast their games is similar to the New York Yankees’ service, the YES Network. The YES Network is:

“America’s pre-eminent regional sports network, owns the exclusive regional media rights to the 27-time World Champion New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Nets.”

From an article by Joon Lee of ESPN in 2023, the Yankees were baseball’s most valuable team by Forbes at $7.1 billion. The YES Network produced $143 million in cable money for the Yankees in 2022. To put it in perspective, that’s $19.5 million short of outfielder Cody Bellinger’s contract. Bellinger signed a five year ($162.5 million) contract this offseason.

The potential revenue the Braves can generate from having their own network is exponential. The Braves aren’t major players in free agency, preferring to sign young players early and make smart trades.

The Braves potentially having an extra $100 million+ from BravesVision to reinvest in the team could make the Braves a bigger player in the National League.

Atlanta Braves President and CEO Derek Schillier says BravesVision is the “vital link” to fans and the organization

When BravesVision was announced in February, President and CEO Derek Schillier said that this was the “vital link” to the fanbase.

“This endeavor will bring the most vital link to our fanbase – our television broadcast – back under the control of our organization,” said Braves President and CEO Derek Schiller to MLB.com. “Generations of Braves fans were raised watching games on a network that shared ownership with the baseball team. With BravesVision, we believe that we can present Braves baseball in new and innovative ways allowing us to expand and elevate our storytelling capabilities across all of our platforms.”
