Atlanta Braves Starting Pitcher Chris Sale Joins Elite Company

With a strikeout of Philadelphia Phillies Third Baseman Edmundo Sosa in the bottom of the 6th inning, Atlanta Braves Starting Pitcher Chris Sale made MLB history. He joined Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, and Clayton Kershaw as the only active pitchers with 2,500 career strikeouts.

Sale’s domination of the Philadelphia Phillies helped the Braves lead 8-0 at the time of publication. He tossed 6 scoreless innings and punched out 8. He is sixth in the league in strikeouts. Will Sale keep pitching well this season?

Sale has been one of the best pitchers in the league for over a decade. He is an eight-time MLB All-Star, winner of the pitching “Triple Crown,” and won his first Cy Young Award last season. He also had a seven-year run where he finished top seven in Cy Young Award voting each year and was named an all-star in every season.

His career has included stints with the Chicago White Sox , Boston Red Sox, and Atlanta Braves. His consistency has been a pleasure to watch. Thursday evening’s achievement was yet another in a long line of accolades. He will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame five years after he hangs up his cleats.

Final Thoughts

Sale’s next scheduled start will be June 4 at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He faced them earlier this season, on April 25, and fared well. He surrendered 1 earned run over 5 innings of work. The reigning Cy Young Award winner will try adding to his resume as the 2025 season marches on.
