Atlanta Braves Starting Pitcher Has Spectacular Start On May 22
David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta Braves Starting Pitcher Max Fried had a great start on Wednesday night on the road against the Chicago Cubs. He tossed a complete game and surrendered one earned run while striking out nine batters. Wednesday was the second time that Fried went the distance during the 2024 season. He had a complete game shutout of the Miami Marlins on April 23.

Fried has pitched well this season, but his stats are skewed due to a slow start to the regular season. His season debut on the road in Philadelphia went as poorly as it could have as Fried surrendered three earned runs as he failed to make it through the first frame.  His second start at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks saw Fried surrender seven earned runs in 4.1 innings of work. Following a slow start, Fried has not allowed more than four earned runs in another start.

He is 4-2 this season with a 3,38 ERA. Will Max Fried be able to carry this momentum into his next start?

Max Fried Career Summary

Fried made his debut in 2017 with the Atlanta Braves and has been one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball ever since. He is a three-time Gold Glove Award winner(2020-22), a one-time MLB All-Star(2022), and finished top five in CY Young Award voting twice. Fried finished as the runner-up in 2022 to Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins. He also finished fifth in the CY Young Award voting in 2020.

Fried has a career record of 66-28 with an ERA of 3.06.

Atlanta Braves Season Summary

The Braves(28-18) are again one of the best teams in all of Major League Baseball. Atlanta features an above-average offense as they are seventh in batting average, 15th in home runs and 16th in runs scored. Designated Hitter Marcell Ozuna is leading the team in nearly every important offensive category, and is near the top of the league in terms of offensive production. Ozuna is 10th in the league in batting average(.324), third in home runs(15), and tied for the league lead in RBI(46).

Atlanta’s pitching staff has also gotten off to a strong start this season. They are seventh in ERA, have surrendered the sixth-fewest home runs, and are ninth in WHIP. Fried is not the only starting pitcher for the Atlanta Braves that has gotten off to a stellar start. Reynaldo Lopez is third in the league with a 1.54 ERA and Chris Sale is second in the league with seven wins and top-10 in both ERA and strikeouts.

When Will Max Fried Take The Mound Next?

Fried’s next scheduled start is on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, against the Washington Nationals. This will be the first time that he will face Washington this season.
