Baltimore Orioles' Cedric Mullins Comments on His Injury and His Absence
USA TODAY Sports

Baltimore Orioles slugger Cedric Mullins was placed on the injured list on Wednesday with an adductor injury, and on. Thursday, he said he doesn't know a timeline for his return.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Mullins (groin) said Thursday that he's not sure how long he'll be sidelined, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

ANALYSIS
Mullins is dealing with a right adductor strain, which is an injury similar to what kept him out for nearly a month during the first half. He is able to perform all baseball activities other than running, but it's not clear when he might be cleared to perform the latter activity. Aaron Hicks has been handling center field for the Orioles with Mullins out.

The 28-year-old is hitting .259 this year with nine homers, 47 RBI and 14 stolen bases. Lifetime, he's a .262 hitter with 62 home runs.

He hit 30 home runs back in the 2019 season and is a source of speed and power for the O's dynamic offense. Not having him will certainly hurt Baltimore's attempt to score runs.

The Orioles woke up on Thursday in first place in the American League East for the first time since 2016 (in the second half of the season) and will have to weather the storm without Mullins.

At the time of this posting, they lead the Tampa Bay Rays, 3-1. If they hold onto to win, they'll be a full game up on the Rays, who have led the division throughout the season.
