Baltimore Orioles Designate Kyle Gibson For Assignment

The Baltimore Orioles designated veteran Starting Pitcher Kyle Gibson for assignment Sunday afternoon. He was signed by the team in March following a successful stint with the Orioles in 2023. Unfortunately, his 2025 tenure with the team went miserably. He was 0-3 with an awful 16.78 ERA with the Orioles. Gibson’s fate with the Baltimore Orioles was sealed following another poor outing yesterday at home against the Washington Nationals. He surrendered 6 earned runs while recording only 2 outs. Where will Gibson end up next?

Gibson’s struggles are emblematic of an Orioles team that has been shockingly bad to begin the 2025 season. Baltimore entered the year with lofty expectations following back-to-back playoff appearances. A slow start led to the team dismissing Manager Brandon Hyde on Saturday.

The Baltimore Orioles have lost five consecutive games and have the fourth-worst record in Major League Baseball. Baltimore hopes that by firing Hyde and getting rid of the struggling Gibson, they can begin playing up to their potential.

It is unclear which team will sign Gibson next, if any at all. He has been a solid pitcher over the last decade in the league, but his form with the Baltimore Orioles could scare off suitors. He must convince prospective teams that his 2025 start was an aberration, not a trend.
