Baltimore Orioles Embarrassed by Yankees

The Baltimore Orioles are simply unable to put together solid games on a consistent basis this season. This trend continued Tuesday night, as the New York Yankees scored early and often en route to a 15-3 victory.

The Yankees, taking their Bronx Bombers nickname to heart, led off with three straight solo blasts from Trent GrishamAaron Judge and Ben Rice

They all connected off of Orioles starter Kyle Gibson (0-1), who ended up working into the fourth inning before Orioles manager Brandon Hyde pulled him.

Orioles starter Kyle Gibson didn't have much

Gibson allowed nine runs and 11 hits at a time when the injury-plagued Orioles starting rotation desperately needed a boost.

The Orioles sport a MLB-worst 5.52 team ERA. Baltimore has lost seven of its last nine games, falling to 11-18.

This Tuesday night beatdown comes on the heels of Baltimore's awful 24-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. Toss in recent 7-0 losses to the Washington Nationals and Detroit Tigers, and it's easy to see why this season is spiraling out of control.

Carlos Rodón (4-3) was out of this world for New York. He took a perfect game into the sixth inning.

Rodón eventually left the game after giving up just two runs and two hits in six-plus innings of work.

Orioles searching for postseason form

The Orioles have been a postseason team over the past two seasons, putting themselves in World Series contention. As this season has started, fans and followers are probably wondering if this Orioles team will even be in the running for a playoff spot in September.

Obviously, Baltimore needs some healthy pitchers to get back in gear. The bats have been fairly silent so far, too. Gunnar Henderson had a solo homer for Baltimore against the Yankees, but the offense was kept in check by Rodón.

The Yankees had six total solo homers Tuesday. Keeping their big bats in check will be an assignment on Wednesday for Orioles starter Cade Povich (1-2). New York sends Carlos Carrasco (2-1) to the mound, as the Yankees look to secure a road series victory in Baltimore.
