Following the MLB Draft, Baseball America updated every club’s top 30 prospects list. Here’s how they ranked the Braves top 10 prospects

10. Lucas Braun

Lucas Braun was a sixth-round selection in the 2023 MLB Draft that really popped up on the radar last year following a promotion to then AA Mississippi. In 13 starts, he posted a 2.38 ERA and struck out over 10 batters per nine innings. There have been a few more hiccups this season in Columbus, as he’s recorded a 4.32 ERA over 17 starts, but his 1.156 WHIP and 2.3 BB/9 are still very encouraging metrics.

9. Briggs McKenzie

One of several members of the Braves 2025 MLB draft class to appear on this list, Briggs McKenzie was selected in the fourth round but was handed the largest signing bonus of any of the Braves draft picks at nearly $3 million, which was about $2.5 million over slot value. That tells you what this organizations thinks of the lefty prep arm out of North Carolina who was originally committed to LSU.

8. Tate Southisene

Coming in just ahead of McKenzie is the Braves first round pick this year Tate Southisene, a shortstop out of high school in Las Vegas, Nevada. Think of Southisene as more of an athlete than a shortstop. He can play all over the diamond, including centerfield if that’s where the Braves need him in the future.

7. Owen Murphy

Murphy was the talk of the Braves farm system early last year, posting a 1.54 ERA in seven starts for High-A Rome before Tommy John surgery ended his season prematurely. However, he’s back now, making his first start in rookie ball earlier this week in which he tossed three scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

6. Hurston Waldrep

Many were hoping Hurston Waldrep would take that next step this season and already be apart of the Braves rotation, but control issues continue to plague the 2023 first-round pick out of Florida. Those problems appear to have improved over the last month or so, which could be a massive development over the final two months of the season. It’s very possible we see Waldrep in Atlanta very soon.

5. Nacho Alvarez

Alvarez was just with the major-league club as a fill in for Austin Riley. The leather he flashed on several occasions was impressive, but he’s still yet to show he’s major-league ready with the stick. How Alvarez slots into the Braves’ future plans is intriguing. He’s dominated AAA competition to the point where there’s not much left to prove, but is he a major league starter? Or is he more of a utility player? Either way, Alvarez has a chance to be a very valuable piece in Atlanta.

4. Didier Fuentes

Another young prospect Braves fans have already gotten a glimpse of, Didier Fuentes clearly wasn’t ready for the show. However, that doesn’t take away from his potential. He just turned 20 about a month ago and has the makings of a future major-league starting pitcher.

3. Alex Lodise

The final member of the Braves 2025 draft class to appear on this list, Alex Lodise was taken in the second round after starring at shortstop for Florida State. He instantly becomes the Braves best positional prospect in the organization, and it will be very interesting to see how quickly they decide to move him through the system. With so many questions up the middle in Atlanta, it’s possible Lodise makes his MLB debut before the end of next season.

2. JR Ritchie

Ritchie recently received a well-deserved promotion to AAA Gwinnett and is probably the club’s most MLB ready pitching prospect. He starred in MLB’s Futures Game over All-Star Weekend, flashing a 97 MPH fastball that headlines a really impressive five-pitch mix. He’s another prospect that could make his MLB debut before the end of the season.

1. Cam Caminiti

Headlining the Braves list of top prospects according to Baseball America is 2024 first-round pick Cam Caminiti. He’s not as close to the majors as the rest of these guys, but the upside is immense as he possesses a 70-grade fastball from the left side that is already touching the high-90s. So far in Low-A Augusta this season, Caminiti boasts a 2.73 ERA and 12.3 K/9 over seven starts.
