Bleacher Report’s Trade Concept Surrounding Jordan Lawlar
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Prior to the Diamondbacks’ acquisition of LHP Jordan Montgomery, Bleacher Report proposed an intriguing trade scenario between the D-backs and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Following Eduardo Rodriguez’s move to the IL, Kerry Miller at BR suggested that Arizona should pursue 2021 All-Star pitcher Freddy Peralta. In exchange, the Brewers would receive the Diamondbacks’ #1 prospect, Jordan Lawlar.

Miller noted that Lawlar did not secure a spot in the Diamondbacks‘ Opening Day lineup, despite being on their postseason roster last year. Instead, Arizona seems inclined to opt for Blaze Alexander as a backup shortstop behind Geraldo Perdomo. Alexander, drafted in the 11th round of the 2018 draft by Arizona, has swiftly ascended through the minor league ranks, boasting a .400 batting average in spring training.

“Lawlar is a long-term asset whom Arizona could afford to part with to improve the starting rotation, which Peralta would do for them.” added Miller. “Since the beginning of 2021, Peralta has logged 388 IP with a 3.41 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP and an 11.4 K/9. He’s quietly been about as valuable as Blake Snell over that three-year window. Pairing him with Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Eduardo Rodriguez and Brandon Pfaadt just might be enough for Arizona to make a run at the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.”

During his 2023 season with the Brewers, Freddy Peralta recorded a 3.86 ERA and a 12-10 record. He currently holds a $15.5 million contract lasting until 2027.
