Blue Jays: 2025 Arizona Fall League Day 3 recap

On Thursday, Toronto Blue Jays prospects at the Arizona Fall League picked up their first victory.

The Glendale Desert Dogs defeated the Scottsdale Scorpions by a score of 13-7 to bring their season record to 1-2. Just like the first two games, Blue Jays players had a notable impact on the game for the Desert Dogs.

Only two Blue Jays’ prospects participated in this game, Josh Kasevich and Cutter Coffey. Starting with Kasevich, his first plate appearance saw him ground into a double play to end the bottom of the first. In his second plate appearance, he struck out to lead off the bottom of the third, but the rest of the game was far better for the shortstop.

In the bottom of the fourth, Kasevich drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases. He registered his lone hit in the bottom of the sixth, a single, before drawing a second walk in the bottom of the seventh. Kasevich also turned the game-ending double play in the top of the ninth.

Coffey also reached base three times in this game. He immediately followed Kasevich, flying out to lead off the bottom of the second. Immediately after Kasevich’s lone strikeout, Coffey also struck out but reached base in his remaining three plate appearances. After Kasevich walked to load the bases, Coffey drove in the runner on third for an RBI. He hit two more singles in the game.

Through three Arizona Fall League games, Coffey is slashing .462/.500/.538 with a double in 14 plate appearances. Kasevich hasn’t found the same success, as he’s slashing just .182/.400/.182, but he has drawn four walks in his 15 plate appearances.

Edward Duran remained on the bench, while Chay Yeager, Yondrei Rojas, Alex Amalfi, and Kai Peterson were inactive in this game. It stands to reason that the four pitchers will be available when the Desert Dogs play next. Unfortunately, that won’t be on Friday as their afternoon game against the Surprise Saguaros was cancelled, while their game on Saturday against the Scorpions has been postponed.

Next up for the Blue Jays’ prospect is a matchup against the Saguros on Sunday at 3:30 PM ET.
