Blue Jays: 3 players in the Florida Complex League to keep an eye on down the stretch

Although most recognition goes to the AAA-A levels of minor league baseball, the Florida Complex League (FCL) hosts exciting games throughout the season, featuring young talent and rehabbing major leaguers. The FCL Blue Jays have had a great run this year, sitting only one game behind the FCL Tigers for the lead of the North Division, which has only about a month of games left to play.

The team’s 24-16 record can be attributed to a few key prospects who could find themselves with a promotion if they can continue their solid play.

Here are three names to watch closely as the FCL season approaches its final month of 2025.

RHP Diego Dominguez

A former member of the Dominican Summer League (DSL) Cardinals and Blue Jays, Diego Dominguez struggled with both teams during his tenures there in 2022 and 2024, respectively.

He appears to have found a new gear since moving to the Florida Complex League, however, as his 5.40 ERA from his 2024 DSL campaign has dropped down to a wicked 0.93 through 19 1/3 innings. He’s holding opposing bats to a .167 average and has authored a 0.93 WHIP in the process.

The former Intercounty Baseball League Toronto Maple Leaf and University of Central Oklahoma pitcher could find himself in A-level ball if he continues the pace he’s on. His main strength throughout his career has been his command, posting a near 0.5-1 walk per inning pitched ratio.

OF/1B David Beckles

David Beckles’ journey has been similar to Dominguez’s. He’s a former DSL player who struggled with a different team before being signed by the Jays. In Beckles’ case, he played with the FCL NYY Bombers from 2022 to part of 2024 before being released.

The Blue Jays picked him up, and his bat has exploded in 2025 after being sent stateside. In 39 games, he’s boasting a team-leading .812 OPS on a .281 batting average. He’s second on the team in RBIs, with 28 knocked in so far, and has walked 20 times, carrying a .380 OBP. He also sits tied for second on the team in home runs (four).

His resurgence earned him his first professional baseball award back in May, as he took home a Player of the Week award on the 11th of that month.

OF Yorman Licourt

Signed out of Cuba through international free agency ahead of the 2024 season, the switch-hitting Yorman Licourt put up a great first season with the DSL Blue Jays, slashing .282/.377/.430 through 41 games.

This season in the FCL, his bat-to-ball skills have taken a step back, but his power has taken a step forward in exchange. He already has one more home run than last year, having played four fewer games to this point.

He’s slashing .233/.346/.444 and is leading the FCL Jays in RBIs with 34. While he’ll likely spend a bit more time in the FCL, the Jays may explore a promotion to Dunedin next year. Licourt would fit right in, as the Dunedin Jays have the second most home runs in the Florida State League this year with 53.

Up next…

The FCL Jays have less than a month left of games to play this season. Their last contest will be on July 24th against the FCL Phillies. Their next game is on June 28th against the FCL Yankees at 10 am, as they come off a 4-3 win on the road against the FCL Tigers on June 27th.
