More and more are the Toronto Blue Jays are grateful for their catcher, Alejandro Kirk. The two-time All-Star has emerged as a reliable and clutch offensive backstop, which bodes well for the Jays, considering many regard the Mexican product for his work behind the plate these past two seasons.

Fast forward five years since his big league debut, Kirk’s reliability has been well spoken of across the league, and he’s found himself towards the top end of the catcher’s rankings. His calibre now outshines most catchers from an offensive standpoint, and his name sits amongst the elite.

The Jays catcher started his clutch campaign early this season.

Alejandro Kirk has that clutch factor for the Blue Jays

Down by one run in the ninth inning against the Yankees on April 25th, Kirk got the Blue Jays going with a two-run double off reliever Devin Williams. This sparked the comeback train, and the Blue Jays won 4-2, snapping an early four-game losing streak.

Fast forward a few days to April 30th, and Kirk was responsible for the game-winning hit against the Boston Red Sox in the 10th inning. With the ghost runner on second, the Red Sox decided to walk George Springer and Daulton Varsho to get to the Jays’ backstop, only for the right-hander to send a ball to left field to send the home crowd home happy. This was also on his ‘bobble-arm’ giveaway night as well.

On June 9th, Kirk went a stunning 4 for 5 against the St. Louis Cardinals.  He went yard, then drove in the winning run on a double to lead off the tenth inning to give Toronto the lead and eventual win.

Days ago, on September 13th against the Baltimore Orioles, the Blue Jays’ backstop was inserted as a pinch-hitter in the 8th inning. Toronto was down by two runs when he came into the game, and the right-handed bat recorded an RBI single to make it within one, and later delivered a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the ninth inning to grab a comeback win over the Baltimore Orioles.

His elite output shines bright around the league

Kirk brings a lot of value to the Blue Jays on the field. This season, Kirk has recorded 418 at-bats, slashing a .292/.358/.419. He has 122 hits, 12 home runs, 68 RBIs, 17 doubles, and 42 runs scored.

When the game is volatile, Kirk seems to come up big. His slashes in late-game close situations are .358/.397/.491, and he has quality at-bats and with quality contact. He has a hard hit percentage of 50.4% in 2025 with a .339 wOBA.

Alejandro Kirk has proven himself to be a guy you want at the dish when production needs to occur and runs need to be generated. All of this is in addition to being a well-executed defensive catcher with knowledge has been a big reason for the team’s success this season.
