The Toronto Blue Jays are taking a measured approach with second baseman Andrés Giménez as he recovers from injury. There's hope he may come off the 10-day injured list before July wraps up, but the team is prioritizing caution in his return.
Manager John Schneider mentioned over the weekend that Giménez, a three-time Gold Glove winner, has started hitting in the batting cage and is practicing fielding ground balls from his knees. However, he has yet to receive clearance for running or standing fielding, indicating that several important steps remain before he’s ready for game action.
Giménez joined the Blue Jays this offseason through a trade with the Cleveland Guardians and currently holds a batting line of .216/.299/.322, including five home runs and ten stolen bases. His season has already included a stint on the sidelines due to a quad injury suffered during a series against the Angels in Los Angeles back in May.
Most recently, Giménez exited the Blue Jays' 4-3 win over the Angels on July 4 after twisting his ankle while stealing second base against the New York Yankees. He was unable to play in the following game, during which the Blue Jays completed a four-game sweep.
