Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Max Scherzer has had an incredible career in Major League Baseball. Through 18 years in the majors, Scherzer has thrown in 484 games, pitching to a 3.22 ERA with 3,489 strikeouts and 779 walks. He has been selected to eight MLB All-Star Games, won three Cy Young Awards and two World Series titles in his illustrious career.

Scherzer has spent time with seven different organizations during his time in the major leagues. His first season with the Blue Jays came last year when he signed a one-year, $15.5 million contract with Toronto.

While he started just 17 games during the regular season in 2025, the right-hander played a big role in the Blue Jays' run to the World Series.

Scherzer made three starts in the postseason for Toronto, tossing 14 1/3 innings with a 3.77 ERA, striking out 11 batters while walking six. This included starting Game 3 and Game 7 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Throughout the offseason, it was speculated that Scherzer may retire before the 2026 season. However, on Wednesday, the 41-year-old signed a one-year, $3 million deal to stay with Toronto.

On Thursday, Blue Jays manager John Schneider announced an update as to when Scherzer will be available for spring training.

"Max Scherzer has been throwing bullpens and live BP, which he’ll do again after arriving and going through his physical. For now, John Schneider expects him in camp sometime over the weekend," said MLB.com reporter Keegan Matheson.

Even at this advanced stage of his career, Scherzer adds some great depth to an already solid starting rotation. With newly signed Dylan Cease, team leader Keven Gausman, exciting young arm Trey Yesavage and reliable right-hander Jose Berrios, Scherzer fits in well for Toronto.

While his 2026 debut is not yet set, there's no doubt Blue Jays fans are excited for what Scherzer will bring to the table this year.
