Trey Yesavage’s rise through the Toronto Blue Jays system has been swift and impactful. The right-hander, selected 20th overall in the 2024 MLB Draft out of East Carolina, moved rapidly through the minors and made his MLB debut in September 2025, positioning himself as a key part of the club’s long-term rotation plans.
Yesavage made three regular-season starts down the stretch, going 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA and 16 strikeouts, showing early signs of his swing-and-miss ability at the major league level. His role expanded significantly in October, where he became a regular part of Toronto’s postseason rotation.
Across six playoff appearances (five starts), Yesavage went 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA and 39 strikeouts over 27.2 innings, setting a rookie record for strikeouts in a single postseason.
He also delivered a 12-strikeout outing in the World Series.
That workload has influenced how the Blue Jays are handling him entering 2026. Yesavage logged 139.2 total innings across all levels in 2025, a notable increase that has led the club to take a measured approach during spring training. He opens the season on the injured list with right shoulder impingement, with the organization prioritizing a gradual buildup.
As the Blue Jays continue to monitor his progression closely, the team provided an update on Friday before their matchup against the Athletics.
According to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi, manager John Schneider said Yesavage’s next outing is expected early next week, indicating continued progress as the club ramps him up.
Schneider said Shane Bieber will be off a mound next week, with Trey Yesavage’s next outing early next week, Schneider added.

Bieber and Yesavage are in Toronto through the weekend.
The update offers encouragement for Toronto as it manages its pitching depth early in the season. While Yesavage is unlikely to be rushed, his return to game action would add another option to a staff expected to play a central role in the Blue Jays’ push to contend again in 2026.
Toronto kicks off its 2026 MLB campaign at Rogers Center, with the game scheduled for 7:07 p.m. ET.
