The Toronto Blue Jays made a big move on Tuesday, acquiring veteran right-hander Seranthony Domínguez from the Baltimore Orioles ( via ESPN's Jeff Passan). In return, Toronto sent pitching prospect Juaron Watts‑Brown, their No. 10 ranked prospect, to Baltimore. The deal adds immediate bullpen firepower for a team that has already ranked among MLB’s highest‑strikeout relief units.
Domínguez throws a high‑velocity fastball that averages 97.7 mph and contributes an excellent 30.9% strikeout rate. Despite an elevated walk rate (13.7%), he has maintained a solid 3.24 ERA over 41⅔ innings, limiting home runs effectively and earning frequent high-leverage usage. The 30-year-old, who began his MLB career with the Philadelphia Phillies, was traded to the Orioles in July 2024 and now joins the Blue Jays roughly one year later.
While Toronto may have landed Domínguez, the club remains proactive in the bullpen market. Shortly after the Domínguez news broke, MLB insider Mark Feinsand reported that Toronto is still “firmly in the hunt” for Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley.
Helsley, an All-Star and 2024 saves leader, brings elite velocity and strikeout rates and remains a top target among at least six clubs, including the Yankees and Mets.
Even with the Dominguez acquisition, the Blue Jays remain firmly in the hunt for Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley, per sources.

The Blue Jays currently sit atop the AL East standings and hold the second-best record league-wide. The latest report goes to show how determined the franchise is to strengthen its roster ahead of the July 30 trade deadline.
The Blue Jays will return to action on Tuesday night hoping to bounce back from a lopsided loss to Baltimore as they continue their quest to remain on top of the American League.
