Blue Jays Expected to Pursue Seiya Suzuki This Winter

The Toronto Blue Jays’ offense, or lack thereof, was the number one storyline this season for all of the wrong reasons, and as a result, it will continue to be the main focus around the team this winter.

Ross Atkins is going to want to make one or multiple impact additions to the lineup, and according to Mitch Bannon of The Athletic, one bat the Blue Jays already have circled on their wishlist is Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki.

Bannon wrote:

“The Jays finished 2026 with baseball’s worst offence. After Sunday’s win, they were last in runs and home runs. If the Jays don’t fix their lineup, there’s little hope in competing next year.

This offseason, said a league source who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to discuss offseason plans, the Jays are expected to pursue Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki. His 26 homers would’ve ranked second on the Jays this year and his .841 OPS would’ve led all qualified Jays by nearly 80 points,”

The 32-year-old Suzuki is a pending free agent playing in the final year of the five-year, $85 million contract he signed to join the Cubs in 2022. He racked up 26 home runs and 86 RBI while batting .270 in 143 games played this season.
