The Toronto Blue Jays have not won a playoff series since 2016. Since taking over as skipper in 2022, initially as an interim manager, John Schneider has been tasked with leading Toronto back to their championship-winning ways. In his roughly two and a half years as manager, he has a combined record of 218-197 for a .525 winning percentage.
Schneider spent time as a player in the Blue Jays system from 2002-2007 after being drafted in the 13th round out of Delaware. He then spent time as the Blue Jays' catching coach from 2019 to 2022 before being promoted to manager. But his time in the Blue Jays organization may be in jeopardy, according to one MLB insider.
In an article on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic detailed the 2026 option Toronto has for Schneider's contract.
"The Jays hold an option on Schneider for 2026," he wrote. "Shapiro and Atkins previously extended both John Gibbons and Charlie Montoyo at the outsets of their respective contract years. If they have done the same with Schneider, they haven’t announced it publicly."
Rosenthal added some around the league believe Toronto must make the postseason to avoid "major" front office changes.

Despite having a record above .500 during his time as manager, Schneider has yet to lead the Blue Jays to postseason success. He made the playoffs in both 2022 and 2023, but both trips ended in Wild Card sweeps.
The pressure is now on to get the Blue Jays to new heights this season. After signing superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a massive $500 million deal, the Blue Jays' ownership expects to become perennial contenders. Time will tell if Schneider is the man who can return Toronto to its winning ways.
