Blue Jays fan laments narrowly missing Aaron Judge's 61st home run ball: 'I almost had it'

Aaron Judge's season has been something out a movie. The man who went viral for just barely missing his record-tying 61st home run on Wednesday night has a name that would fit almost too perfectly in that movie.

Frankie Lasagna, a 37-year-old restaurant owner, talked to The Canadian Press after the Yankees' 8-3 win, which will be remembered for the one swing that pulled Judge even with Roger Maris.

Lasagna, whose name would fit even better if he were a Yankees fan, told The Canadian Press he only brought a glove to the game because of the unlikely chance he could catch a Judge home run.

“When he hit the ball, it was like ‘Oh my God! Oh my God!," he said, telling the outlet he hit his friend in the neck as he reached for the ball. He fell just short, but not for a lack of effort.

“The disbelief comes over you and just the shock and the amazement," Lasagna told The Canadian Press, adding, “I was like, ‘Oh my God, I almost had it.’”

The ball hit near where the railing and the top of the wall met in front of Lasagna's section and bounced into the Blue Jays' bullpen, where it was picked up by Toronto bullpen coach Matt Buschmann.

Judge's 61st home run ball was valued between $250,000 and $2 million. That's what Lasagna missed by mere inches on a night at the ballpark that he and many others will never forget.
