Blue Jays have officially signed Cuban outfield prospect Yorman Licourt
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Blue Jays have signed a prospect through International Free Agency.

According to Francys Romero, the Blue Jays have officially signed Cuban outfielder Yorman Licourt to a signing bonus of $600,000.

The 20-year-old stands at 6’4”, 205 lbs and has a bat that projected power from his early April report on the outfielder. He played for the Vegueros de Pinar del Rio in the Cuban National Series during their 2023-24 season, slashing .238/.304/.286 with two walks and four strikeouts in 23 plate appearances. He also drove in six runs and had a double.

It was reported by Romero on April 5 that the Jays had about $634,000 left in international signing bonus remaining after the signing of Licourt. However, they traded Wes Parsons to the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for $250,000 in international signing bonus pool money, giving them about $884,000 left for this period. It’s too be seen who the Blue Jays will sign, but as the summer continues, more and more players will sign.

On top of Licourt, the Blue Jays have signed Top 50 International Free Agents such as Franklin Rojas, Angel Guzmán, and Andres Arias. They were also expected to sign the seventh-ranked prospect, Kennew Blanco, but they pulled out after finding out he was 17 years old instead of 16 years old. However, they are still expected to sign Blanco during the 2025 international free agent period.

You can expect Licourt to likely start his season with the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays, as well as Guzmán, Rojas, and Arias. The season kicks off on June 3, with the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays facing off against the Dominican Summer League White Sox.

It will be exciting to see how Licourt’s career plays out, but with his size and professional experience in Cuba, it’s not a hot take to say that he could tear up the Dominican Summer League in his first season in an organization.
