The Toronto Blue Jays' recent series against the Los Angeles Angels has been a challenging one, marked by late-inning struggles and missed opportunities. In the latest matchup, the Blue Jays held a 4-2 lead entering the bottom of the ninth, only to see it evaporate as the Angels rallied for a 5-4 walk-off victory. This loss extended Toronto's losing streak to four games, dropping their season record to 16-20.
Starting pitcher José Berríos delivered a strong performance, striking out nine over six innings and keeping the Angels' offense in check. The Blue Jays' offense showed signs of life, scoring three runs in the seventh inning to take the lead. However, the bullpen faltered late, with closer Jeff Hoffman unable to secure the save.
Hoffman, who had been reliable for much of the season, struggled in this outing, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk in just one-third of an inning. After the game, he acknowledged his performance:
“There were some pitches that should be more executed than they were,” Hoffman said. "I’ll put a focus on that and try to do better next time."
Jeff Hoffman says he feels fine physically but didn't locate some of his pitches well enough tonight. "I’ll put a focus on that & try to do better next time.”

John Schneider: “I feel like we’ve been operating with three round wheels & one square wheel.”https://t.co/r0Hl68yKZe
Hoffman also struggled in Tuesday's loss to the Angels, recording just one out while surrendering three runs. He was not charged with the loss in that game, but was on the hook for Wednesday's decision.
Despite his poor outing, manager John Schneider defending Hoffman after the game.
“He just left some pitches up,” Schneider said (via SportNet's Ben Nicholson-Smith). “That’s a tough one, but Hoff’s going to be good for us the whole year.
As the Blue Jays look to avoid a series sweep, they will need to address their bullpen issues and find ways to close out games. The team's next opportunity to turn things around comes in the series finale against the Angels.
