The Toronto Blue Jays don't have much to complain about, as they're three games ahead of the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East ahead of Wednesday night's rubber match between the two teams. However, outfielder Daulton Varsho (hamstring) hasn't been one of the main contributors to their success.

The 29-year-old is slashing just .207/.240/.543 with eight homers and 20 RBI over 24 games. He hasn't played a big-league game since May 31 due to injury, but he went 1-for-3 with a homer and four RBI in a Single-A rehab appearance on Sunday.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider announced more good news about Varsho on Wednesday, via MLB.com's Keegan Matheson.

"Daulton Varsho is headed for Triple-A Buffalo by Friday, John Schneider says, and likely needs ~3 games there," Matheson reported. "Sounds like we could see Varsho back with the Blue Jays at some point in Baltimore."

Toronto will face the Baltimore Orioles on the road from July 29-30, with a doubleheader on the first day.

Varsho's batting average has gone down each year since 2021, when he hit .246 over 95 games for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 5-foot-8-inch, 207-pounder hit .235 in 2022, .220 in 2023, and .214 in 2024.

The Diamondbacks traded Varsho to the Blue Jays in December 2022 for Gabriel Moreno and Lourdes Gurriel Jr., and he's signed three arbitration deals with the latter club since then. He's currently on a one-year, $8.2 million contract.

Arizona drafted Varsho No. 68 overall in 2017.
