The Toronto Blue Jays fell 8-7 to the New York Yankees in Friday's Spring Training contest. Both teams finished the day 7-5 in Grapefruit League play, placing them in a fourth-place tie with the Boston Red Sox.
Back in action on Saturday, the Blue Jays have split-squad games against the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies. Most of Toronto's regulars are appearing in the Detroit game, as Max Scherzer is starting on the mound with Bo Bichette, Anthony Santander, Andres Gimenez and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. behind him defensively.
While Guerrero's contract situation was the biggest MLB topic in Toronto this offseason, he is not the only homegrown star set to enter free agency after this season.
Two-time All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette is entering the final year of his contract with the Blue Jays. Speaking with Keegan Matheson of MLB.com last month, Bichette revealed the news that he and Toronto had not discussed a longterm extension.
"No, we haven’t had any talks," Bichette said, adding that his focus is on the upcoming season.
Bo Bichette says he and the #BlueJays "haven't had any talks", but he and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. still want to play together forever.

With Bichette's future uncertain beyond the 2025 season, Toronto getting a look at its shortstop depth in Spring Training is important. Unfortunately, the organization's second-ranked prospect at that position is now sidelined for a while.
On Friday, Blue Jays manager John Schneider made the unfortunate announcement that Josh Kasevich will be sidelined for multiple weeks.
"Blue Jays shortstop prospect Josh Kasevich has a stress reaction in his lower back," Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet wrote on X. "He aggravated the preexisting injury during a game last weekend vs Atlanta, per Blue Jays manager John Schneider. Kasevich will be sidelined for multiple weeks."

Kasevich will be sidelined for multiple weeks
Kasevich is Toronto's seventh-ranked prospect (via MLB.com). The 6-foot-2 infielder had appeared in five games this spring, going 2-for-9 while driving in a pair of runs. Making his AAA debut last season for the Buffalo Bisons, Kasevich posted an .815 OPS in 173 plate appearances.
