The Toronto Blue Jays had a weekend they would soon like to forget. On Sunday, they played a doubleheader against the New York Yankees and lost both games. This dropped their season record to 13-15 and put them in fourth place in the American League East division. Their deficit within the division rose to a full four games.
Not only that, but one of their best pitchers, Kevin Gausman, pitched his worst game of the season before getting ejected. Manager John Schneider was also tossed from Game 1. Following this frustrating day, the Blue Jays made changes to the roster ahead of their series against the Boston Red Sox.
Per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com, the Blue Jays sent Jonatan Clase back to Triple-A after he was called up as the 27th man for Sunday's double-header. This was not the only move Toronto made ahead of Tuesday's series opener against Boston.
"ROSTER MOVE: We’ve claimed RHP Casey Lawrence off waivers from the Mariners," the team announced on X.

Lawrence is not new to the Blue Jays, having pitched for them in both 2017 and 2022. The right-hander owns a 6.51 career ERA in 63 games.
As for Clase, who was sent back down, the 22-year-old made his Major League debut with the Blue Jays last season. In those 26 games, he slashed a respectable .246/.303/.328 for a .631 OPS. He has been sensational down in Triple-A Buffalo this season, posting a .852 OPS with 13 walks and just 18 strikeouts. He has also stolen 13 bases in just 22 games.
