The Toronto Blue Jays enter the final game of the season fighting the New York Yankees for a chance to win the American League East. Winning the AL East would give the Blue Jays a bye for the first round of the playoffs, which they’ll need with shortstop Bo Bichette “unlikely” to play in the wild-card round, per manager John Schneider.
Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet Canada reported that Schneider hopes Bichette will be available for the division series, making securing the bye essential.
It’s “pretty unlikely” Bo Bichette would be available for a Wild Card series, John Schneider acknowledged. Hope would be for ALDS if possible

Before going to the injured list with a left knee sprain, Bichette had been having a bounce-back season after having the worst year of his career in 2024, during which was also plagued by injuries. Limited to 81 games, Bichette hit a career-worst .225 with an OPS of .598.
Doing a complete 180, Bichette was back to his usual All-Star self for 2025, tying his career high in batting average at .311 with an .840 OPS, and hitting 44 doubles (second in the American League), also a career high. Bichette also improved his whiff and strikeout percentage, going from the 73rd and 69th percentiles in 2023 to the 83rd and 86th percentiles in 2025.
With one of the better offenses in the American League, second in OPS (.757) and first in batting average (.264), the Blue Jays' offense should carry them through the playoffs.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will need to turn things around for the playoffs, as he’s been cold as of late, hitting .214 with an OPS of .511 in his last 15 games, and having a disastrous postseason resume, hitting .136 with an OPS of .422 in six career playoff games.
Thankfully for the Blue Jays, the opposite is true for Springer, who has been hitting .367 with an OPS of 1.050 and three home runs in his last 15 games. Springer has also proven to be a solid player in the postseason, hitting .268 with an OPS of .875 in 67 career playoff games.
With a mix of a veteran pitching staff and a high-powered offense, the Blue Jays are a scary team to play against heading into the postseason.
