The Toronto Blue Jays‘ farm system is quickly getting better.
After Kumar Rocker graduated from MLB Pipeline’s top prospect list, Trey Yesavage was added to their top 10 right-handed pitchers’ list.
Simply put, it’s well deserved for the 21-year-old. Drafted 20th overall in the 2024 draft, Yesavage began his professional career with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays earlier this season, starting seven games with a 2.43 ERA and a 2.34 FIP in 33.1 innings pitched, along with a 43.3 K% and 6.3 BB%.
He had a short stint with the High-A Vancouver Canadians, pitched 17.1 innings in four starts, where he had a 1.56 ERA and a 3.14 FIP, with a 47.8 K% and a 15.9%. Despite the season not even being half over, the Jays promoted Yesavage to the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats recently, where he gave up an earned run in four innings for a 2.25 ERA. Yesavage also walked and struck out four batters.
Overall, Yesavage has a 2.14 ERA and a 2.74 FIP in 54.2 innings pitched, with a 43.4 K% and a 10.8 BB%. Among qualified pitchers with 10 or more innings pitched, Yesavage’s 32.5 K-BB% ranks first in the league. Yesavage also has 92 strikeouts, tied for the second-most in baseball, only behind Canadian right-handed pitcher Jonah Tong.
Yesavage isn’t the only Blue Jays prospect who ranks top 10 in their position. Orelvis Martinez is considered the 10th-best among second base prospects. That said, he isn’t off to the best start this season, slashing .205/.297/.400 with nine home runs in 230 plate appearances for an 87 wRC+. There’s a good chance he’ll fall off the list in their mid-season update.
One player who could find his way onto the top 10 list for their respective position is 2023 first-round pick Arjun Nimmala. So far this season, the 19-year-old shortstop is slashing .267/.351/.483 with 10 home runs in 265 plate appearances for a 124 wRC+ in High-A.
Overall, the Blue Jays’ farm system is starting to improve, which is good for the contending Blue Jays.
