Today’s prospect is one of the best power hitters in the Toronto Blue Jays organization.

This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual Pre-Season Prospect Countdown, this time looking at the top 40 prospects in the organization. We’ll look at the player’s stats, my observations, and other publication’s scouting reports if available.

Let’s take a look at our 25th-best Blue Jays prospect, Peyton Williams!

Getting to know Peyton Williams…

Position: First base

Bats: Left

Born: September 14, 2000

Acquired: 7th-round, 2022 draft

Previous ranking: 35th

Williams’ profile has always been fun. Standing at 6’5”, 255 lb, Williams slashed .317/.455/.593 with 21 home runs in 492 collegiate plate appearances and had nearly as many walks (77) as strikeouts (83). This prompted the Blue Jays to select Williams in the seventh round of the 2022 draft.

The first baseman had a solid start to his professional career, slashing .242/.382/.333 with two home runs in 123 plate appearances with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays to end the 2022 season. He repeated the level to begin the 2023 season, where he slashed .274/.370/.476 with seven home runs in 192 plate appearances. After his call-up to High-A Vancouver, Williams slashed .240/.327/.434 with seven home runs in 147 plate appearances.

Williams didn’t make his 2024 season debut until May 20, eventually joining the Vancouver Canadians on May 29. In 334 plate appearances, Williams slashed .289/.362/.476 with 11 home runs, with a 10.8 BB% and a 22.8 K% for a 133 wRC+.

Standing at 6’5”, 255 lbs, Williams produces a ton of high exit velocities and hits for power. His 25 home runs since the start of the 2023 season are tied for the seventh most in the organization. He pairs that with a solid hit tool, as he’s shown he can hit for a solid average with a good eye at the plate. Defensively, he’s a first baseman who could be utilized in a designated hitter role in the future.
