Blue Jays outright Lenyn Sosa to Triple-A Buffalo

Sosa, 26, has  spent the past few months on the injured list with a right hand contusion. Originally placed on the 10-day injured list, Sosa was moved to the 60-day injured list in August, thus removing him off the 40-man roster. With Sosa’s rehab stint done, a decision needed to be made, and the Jays decided to completely remove him from the 40-man roster.

Sosa was acquired by the Blue Jays in mid-April, as they sent prospect Jordan Rich to the Chicago White Sox for the second baseman’s services. Since the trade, he’s appeared in 28 games with the Blue Jays, slashing .188/.205/.276 with a home run in 84 plate appearances, good for a 28 wRC+.

Sosa hasn’t played in a big league since May 26th in a matchup against the Miami Marlins, as he was hit in the hand by Sandy Alcántara in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sosa had a couple of rehab stints, playing three games in late June but suffering a setback that kept him on the shelf for nearly two months. He most recently played four games for the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays.

Despite his struggles this season, which even predated the trade, Sosa has shown to be a capable big league hitter. In 2025, the second baseman slashed .264/.293/.434 with 22 home runs in 544 plate appearances, good for a 100 wRC+.

Sosa remains in the Blue Jays’ organization and will now try to work his way back up to the big leagues competing against players like Jay Harry and Josh Kasevich.
