The Toronto Blue Jays have another series win to celebrate after completing a three-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday.
In the series finale at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, the Blue Jays came away with a 5-2 victory, thanks in part to the bat of third baseman Ernie Clement, who went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in the fifth inning.
With success comes elation, which appears to be what’s taking over the Blue Jays.
“It’s the most fun we’ve had as a group so far this year and in past years,” Clement said (h/t Mitch Bannon of The Athletic). “It just feels so much different. It’s just, it’s fun showing up to the ballpark.”
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette remain the biggest stars on the team, but the likes of Clement and Alejandro Kirk are also making things happen for the 38-30 Blue Jays, who are four games behind the New York Yankees for the top spot in the American League East.
The Blue Jays have won eight of 10 games and 22 of their last 32. Additionally, Toronto has pocketed five consecutive series wins. The bats have come alive for the Blue Jays, fueling the team in the process.
So far in June, Toronto has the second-best batting average (.290) in the big leagues. The team’s .337 wOBA and 119 wRC+ are both sixth overall in MLB in the same stretch. Alejandro Kirk’s hot bat has also greatly propelled the Blue Jays, with the designated hitter slashing .447/.462/.711 with a .505 wOBA in June.
Up next for the Blue Jays is a three-game set against the Philadelphia Phillies that begins on Friday at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
