The Vancouver Canadians are white hot. Amid a franchise-record setting 10-game win streak, the Canadians all of a sudden find themselves atop the Northwest League standings. The Blue Jays’ high-A affiliate had multiple standout performances during this stretch, but maybe none more so than what they’ve gotten out of Nick Goodwin in June thus far.
A seventh-round pick out of Kansas State in the 2023 amateur draft, Goodwin is in his second full season playing at high-A. Following the draft, Goodwin logged 26 games in single-A Dunedin before getting a quick cup of coffee in Vancouver, which is where he remains.
The 6’1″ natural shortstop has played all over the infield this season since Arjun Nimmala has a stranglehold on his natural position. A patient hitter, Goodwin will routinely run high walk rates with respectable strikeouts. There’s no standout tool with Goodwin; he just does everything good enough. In the batter’s box, he has shown some similarities to another former Blue Jays infield prospect like Cavan Biggio, just given the patient profile he possesses and the super-utility role he’s played on the diamond.

In 2025, the right-handed bat is slashing .245/.366/.448, resulting in a very solid 123 wRC+. He’s also chipped in with nine homers and 32 RBIs, and a couple of swiped bags. Those numbers have skyrocketed in June along with the Canadians’ record. In 41 at-bats this month thus far, Goodwin is slashing a gaudy .317/.408/.756 (1.164 OPS), with six of his nine homers on the season coming in this recent stretch, as well as 17 RBIs (53.1%). Those video game numbers earned him the Northwest League Player of the Week honours on June 9th. For the year, Goodwin owns a .814 OPS and has crafted a .375 wOBA and a .252 BABIP while walking at a 12.7% clip.
When you think of the Vancouver Canadians, the first name that comes to mind is Nimmala, followed in quick succession by the likes of Khal Stephen, Gage Stanifer, Victor Arias, and soon-to-be Kendry Rojas. Nick Goodwin’s name hasn’t come up with the same frequency compared to the group above; however, it might be time for that to change. Goodwin may not possess the same exciting tools or lofty ceiling as other prospects in the Blue Jays pipeline, but he’s a high probability player with a safe floor.
Those types of players are supremely valuable to balance the scales from a roster construction standpoint. Don’t forget about Nick Goodwin.
