Blue Jays prospect Watch: Jace Bohrofen wins Player of the Week honours after four-homer performance

Last week, one of the Toronto Blue Jays’ top prospects, Jace Bohrofen, went on a tear for the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

The team’s six-game homestand against the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals affiliate) couldn’t have gone much better for the outfielder as he hit a .346/.393/.808 slash on his way to Eastern League Player of the Week honours. He went 9 for 26 at the plate while walking twice, posting a .278 BABIP and a 1.201 OPS in the process.

The 23-year-old, ranked as the Jays’ 24th-best prospect by MLB Pipeline , became the first position player to take home the award for the Fisher Cats since Will Robertson did in 2023.

As a former sixth-round pick, Bohrofen always could go on these types of stretches. He is a former captain of the NCAA Arkansas Razorbacks and had an excellent year for the high-A Vancouver Canadians in 2024, leading the team in total bases with 117.

His recent stretch has been a result of honing in on his own strengths and cutting down on his game’s Achilles heel, the strikeout. While his 2024 campaign with the Canadians was certainly impressive, he still averaged more than one strikeout per game with 115 over 112 games. This has carried over to the start of his 2025 season with the Fisher Cats, as he has struck out 18 times through 13 games.

His week against the Senators was different, though. He had only four strikeouts across the six games, a number inflated by his two Ks in the third game of the set. In three of the six games, he avoided the punch-out altogether.

The improved approach at the plate paid off, allowing him to lead the Eastern League with four home runs and nine RBIs across the series.

Bohrofen’s challenge now becomes maintaining this lower strikeout rate. He has the tools to succeed at higher levels, but decreasing his K% would certainly differentiate him from his fellow prospects as a top-tier bat. A good example would be how Alan Roden’s ball-in-play approach earned him his promotion to the majors to start this season.

He’ll get plenty of chances to do exactly that as the season progresses, starting with the team’s series against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (New York Mets affiliate) that they’re playing through this week (he went 0 for 4 on Tuesday night’s game).

Game two of that set goes tonight at 6:07 pm EST, and that is to be followed up with a double-header on Thursday.
