The Toronto Blue Jays were heartbroken this weekend, as they lost in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The extra-inning defeat was the second straight loss for manager John Schneider and the Blue Jays after they led the series 3-2.

One player who played a big role in Toronto's regular-season success but wasn't in the Blue Jays' lineup in their journey to the Fall Classic was first baseman Ty France.

France began this year with the Minnesota Twins and was traded to the Blue Jays along with right-handed pitcher Louis Varland at the trade deadline.

Between the two teams this year, France batted .257 with a .320 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of .360. He hit seven home runs and had 52 RBIs in 138 games.

While he was the everyday first baseman for the Twins, his time was limited with the Blue Jays, as superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. manned that corner for Toronto. On Sept. 21, France injured his oblique against the Kansas City Royals, which held him out of the ALDS and ALCS.

He returned to the roster for the World Series, but played in just two games as a pinch hitter. He went 1-for-4 at the plate with one RBI in those appearances.

On Sunday, the day after the Blue Jays' World Series defeat, Major League Baseball announced the 2025 Gold Glove Award winners for each position. France was named the winner at first base for the American League.

This is the first such award France has earned in his seven-year MLB career. The Blue Jays reacted to this news with a post on the team's X account.

"Ty France wins his 1st career Gold Glove Award ," the caption read.

France led all first basemen in the majors with a +10 outs above average and a .996 fielding percentage this season. He made just three errors all year and totaled 755 putouts with 74 assists.

After a disappointing Saturday for the World Series runner-ups, this award news was exciting for France, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
