The Toronto Blue Jays have enjoyed a strong first half of the season, boasting a 43-37 record, as they prepare for a weekend series against the Boston Red Sox. Despite managing several injuries across its roster, Toronto remains in the playoff hunt, currently sitting at third in the AL East, just half a game behind the Tampa Bay Rays.
Toronto’s outfield depth has been tested recently, prompting close monitoring of key players returning from injury. Among those is veteran center fielder Daulton Varsho, who has been sidelined since late May with a hamstring strain. His return could provide a boost to both the lineup and defense heading into the season’s second half.
According to manager John Schneider, there’s encouraging progress on that front.
Varsho is now “running a little bit more” and could be cleared to run the bases soon, signaling positive progress as he prepares to return to game action.
He reportedly resumed running on Wednesday after a brief setback on Monday, and initial MRI results showed scar‑tissue irritation rather than structural damage, which keeps his rehab timeline intact (via CBS Sports).

Varsho electrified fans earlier this season by averaging a .207 batting average. He has launched eight home runs, with 19 hits and 20 RBIs in just 24 games while providing Gold Glove level defense in center field.
While Varsho continues his recovery, the Blue Jays (18-21 on the road) will hope to improve their record away from home when they take on the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Friday.
