The biggest storyline still hanging over the Toronto Blue Jays this offseason is the future of infielder Bo Bichette. While the front office has been busy spending on other free agents, their homegrown two-time All-Star remains unsigned after seven seasons with the organization.

Bichette has shown a willingness to move off shortstop to second base in order to boost his market appeal. His offensive production continues to define his value, and shifting positions could lessen the defensive concerns from last year.

In 2025, the 27-year-old appeared in 139 games and posted a .311 batting average, .357 on-base percentage, .840 OPS, 18 home runs and 94 RBIs.

Though he missed most of Toronto’s run to the World Series, he still contributed when healthy and was a key part of the lineup.

With Bichette still unsigned and the free-agent class thinning, his list of potential suitors has grown. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees have all checked in.

“Three previously unreported teams have checked on superstar Bo Bichette: Yankees, Dodgers and Cubs,” Heyman reported Thursday.

That development poses a real obstacle to Toronto’s hopes of keeping him. All three clubs are contenders with resources to spend, and the Dodgers’ seemingly unlimited payroll flexibility could drive up the price for Bichette’s services.

Bichette in Pinstripes Would Crush the Blue Jays

Heyman also noted that the Yankees, Toronto’s division rival, could create room at second base for Bichette by moving Jazz Chisholm Jr. Chisholm is entering unrestricted free agency after the 2026 season, and New York may be hesitant to commit to him long term.

“The Yankees and Cubs are fielding inquiries on their star 2B who are free agents after 2026 (Jazz Chisholm and Nico Hoerner),” Heyman added.

If Bichette were to land in New York, the impact would be especially painful for Blue Jays fans. Not only would Toronto lose one of its best players, but it would also have to face him regularly in the AL East, where the Yankees and Blue Jays are expected to battle for the division title.

For now, Bichette’s future remains uncertain, but the pressure is mounting. The Blue Jays must decide whether to meet the rising market or risk watching their homegrown slugger strengthen a rival.
