Blue Jays reportedly recall Luis De Los Santos, one of the longest tenured plays in the organization
Dave Nelson-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bisons’ roster continues to be decimated.

According to Eric Trueden of Jays Journal, the Toronto Blue Jays are recalling Luis De Los Santos from Triple-A Buffalo.

Alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr., De Los Santos is the longest tenured player in the Jays organization as they both signed July 2, 2015. In fact, Guerrero Jr. and De Los Santos are the last two players remaining from the Alex Anthopoulos era.

The infielder started his career back in 2016, slashing .291/.356/.354 with a homer in 211 plate appearances. The following season in rookie ball and Low-A (for depth purposes), De Los Santos slashed .273/.308/.371 with a homer in 224 plate appearances for a 92 wRC+.

He saw a power surge in the 2018 season, slashing .246/307/.414 with seven home runs in 260 plate appearances with the Bluefield Blue Jays of the Appalachian League, the former rookie-advanced league.

De Los Santos finally made the “A” level affiliates in 2019, slashing .213/.258/.301 with three home runs in 343 plate appearances. At the time, De Los Santos was 21, and spent the season between Advanced A Dunedin, A-ball Lansing, and Short-Season A Vancouver. The minor league system has changed since then.

Missing the entirety of the 2020 season like all minor league players, De Los Santos started the 2021 season with the High-A Vancouver Canadians. It was a subpar season for him, as he slashed .253/.297/.426 with a career-best 12 home runs in 407 plate appearances for a 90 wRC+.

Making the move to the upper-minors in his aged-24 season, De Los Santos slashed .257/.314/.385 with 10 home runs in 465 plate appearances between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo, spending his final four games with the Bisons. He started the 2023 season with the Fisher Cats before heading to Buffalo in May. Overall, he finished the 2023 season slashing .229/.332/.384 with eight home runs in 340 plate appearances.

De Los Santos has spent the majority of the 2024 season injured, only getting 103 plate appearances. The bulk of his season has been with the Bisons, where he’s slashing .243/.393/.400 with three home runs in 90 plate appearances for a 114 wRC+. His season wRC+ of 130 is currently a career-best, albeit in a small sample size.

The 26-year-old never ranked on the Blue Jays top 30 list, but as one of the longest tenured Blue Jays’ players, he absolutely deserves a shot in this lost season.
