With the 442nd overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, the Blue Jays have selected Jake Casey, an outfielder from Kent State University (Ohio) and the son of former Tigers three-time all-star Sean Casey.

Standing at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, Casey has a prototypical outfielder’s frame. He combines phenomenal athleticism with a picturesque left-handed swing much like his father had with the Tigers a couple of decades ago. He possesses plus arm strength and can play centerfield in a pinch, though he likely profiles better at a corner at the pro level.

The Golden Flashes right fielder appeared in 56 games this season and slashed an absurd .356/.500/.736 to go along with 17 homers and 55 RBIs. The 22-year-old also stole 20 bases in 28 attempts.

Casey appeared in only 30 games last season after an injury shut down his 2024 campaign early. He slashed .216/.323/.523 in that time and popped eight homers. He benefited from a clean bill of health this year and saw his hit toll blossom, having added .140 points to his batting average. Combine his entire Kent State career, and Casey will have slashed .277/.411/.599 across 161 games with 41 home runs, 127 RBIs, and 43 stolen bases.

The outfielder also spent some time in the Cape Cod League in 2023, appearing in 33 games for the Orleans Firebirds. He collected 12 hits through 70 at-bats in the prestigious league, five of which were for extra bases, and finished with a .662 OPS.

A senior, Casey will be an easy sign for the Blue Jays this late in the draft, likely coming in at or just under slot. He figures to get his professional career kick-started in Dunedin, likely in early August and will look to become the next notable outfield prospect in what’s become a long list for the organization in that regard.
