
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Andres Gimenez has had a very successful start to his career in Major League Baseball. Through six years in the majors, Gimenez has a slash line of .253/.317/.382 with an OPS of .698, including 56 home runs, 257 RBIs and 111 stolen bases.
While his offensive numbers don't jump off the stat sheet, his play on defense is what has made him a star in baseball. In 2,711 defensive chances in his career, Gimenez has made just 36 errors, totaling a fielding percentage of .987.
The 27-year-old infielder has made one All-Star Game, won three Gold Glove Awards and one American League Platinum Glove Award in his career.
Gimenez began his major league career with the New York Mets before spending four seasons with the Cleveland Guardians. Last year was his first with Toronto, as he was traded to the Blue Jays from the Guardians before the season. He played 101 games for Toronto, batting just .210 with seven long balls and 35 RBIs.
This spring, the Barquisimeto, Venezuela, native decided to represent his home country in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. He and Team Venezuela are taking on Team Italy in the WBC semifinals on Monday.
Before the game, the Blue Jays sent him a message on social media.

Gimenez was not listed in Venezuela's lineup for the semifinal matchup, but he will be available to come off the bench against Team Italy. The winner of the game will take on Team USA in the WBC final on Tuesday night.
First pitch on Monday is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at loanDepot Park in Miami, Florida, and can be seen on FS1.
