Toronto Blue Jaysfirst basemanVladimir Guerrero Jr. has had a fantastic career in Major League Baseball. Through seven years in the majors, Guerrero has slashed .288/.366/.495 with an OPS of .861, including 183 home runs and 591 RBIs in 975 games in the regular season.
He has made five All-Star Game appearances, won two Silver Slugger Awards, one Gold Glove and was named the MVP of the 2025 American League Championship Series.
His incredible play in the ALCS was part of his unbelievable postseason run that helped the Blue Jays reach the World Series for the first time since 1993. In 18 playoff games, he batted .397, had a 1.289 OPS, eight long balls and 15 RBIs.
This spring, Guerrero, who was born in Montreal, QC, Canada, but has roots in the Dominican Republic, decided to represent the D.R. in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. In five games during the tournament, he hit an insane .444 with a pair of homers and eight RBIs.
Guerrero and the rest of Team Dominican Republic fell in the WBC semifinal round to Team USA on Sunday, 2-1.
One day after being eliminated from the tournament, Guerrero took to Instagram to send a message about the loss and representing his country on a global stage.
"REPRESENTING YOUR COUNTRY AND PLAYING THE GAME YOU LOVE AT THE SAME TIME IS A GIFT FROM GOD.
TO THE FANS OF OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY, THANK YOU FOR REMINDING US EVERY DAY WHY WE DO THIS.
SEE YOU AGAIN IN FOUR YEARS.
WITH LOVE,
VLADDY," the caption read.
Team Dominican Republic came into the tournament as one of the favorites to walk away with the title. However, the low-scoring loss to the United States put an end to a great run.
Guerrero will now head back to Blue Jays spring training in Dunedin, Florida, before the start of the 2026 MLB season in late March.
