The noise at Kauffman Stadium was impossible to miss, was it not? Kansas City fans went all out after another home loss, this time against the Baltimore Orioles, and the boos rained down on every Royals player. That’s where this story gets real, and Bobby Witt Jr. had a few things to say on that.

The Royals have crashed into a rough 7-16 start, sitting at the bottom of the AL Central and carrying the worst record in baseball. Even tougher, veteran catcher Salvador Perez is expected to step away from catching duties for a few days, adding more pressure to an already thin roster.

Still, the division race isn’t gone yet. Cleveland leads at 13-11, with Detroit right behind at 12-11. So yes, there’s time, but not much room left for excuses. As per Royals reporter Jaylon Thompson on X, Bobby Witt Jr. didn’t dodge the moment.

“Yeah it s—-. But if you’re the worst team in baseball, you might deserve to get booed every once in a while. It should motivate us to get better. Just motivate us to go out there and lay it all on the field each and every night.”

Witt Jr. has backed his words with production, hitting .287 with 25 hits, tied with Maikel Garcia for the team lead. He also admitted nobody inside that clubhouse expected this collapse.

Bobby Witt Jr.’s Contract Is Still Kansas City’s Biggest Win

Back in 2024, Kansas City bet big on Witt Jr. Two years later, that move looks like an absolute win, and the deal has aged beautifully for both sides.

Bobby Witt Jr. has become one of baseball’s elite stars. He helped push the Royals back into the playoffs in 2024, finished runner-up in MVP voting, then followed it with another top-four MVP finish and a Platinum Glove in 2025.

The contract’s guaranteed value now feels like a bargain. Kansas City gets Bobby Witt Jr.’s prime years through 2030. After that, keeping him may get pricey.
