The Boston Red Sox are among many other MLB teams making roster moves as Opening Day approaches. On Sunday, the Red Sox made a significant announcement on one of their top three prospects.

MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo  reported on Sunday, citing a source, that 12th-ranked MLB prospect Marcelo Mayer will start the season in Triple-A.

Amid other Boston roster moves, Kristian Campbell, seventh-ranked MLB prospect, will make the team's Opening Day roster. It's still unclear if he will be the team's starting second baseman, but all points toward that being the case.

As for Mayer, he would unlikely make the club out of camp unless he just totally wowed everyone. He performed well in AA last season and now will get full-time play with Triple-A Worcester.

The other Red Sox top prospect is Roman Anthony, who presumably will be on the Opening Day roster. However, nothing has been announced yet. Many executives in Boston's front office have noted that the team will make the final roster moves until Opening Day.

Boston faithful would love to see all three of the team's top prospects on the field at some point this season. They all seem MLB-ready and poised to be the league's next star players.

However, it can't always work like that. Boston will be careful not to bring these guys up before they are fully ready to impact a team with many promises and expectations.
