Bounce-Back Brennen: Time to Call Up Cubs' Former Top Prospect?

The Chicago Cubs are not doing well offensively. Over four games with the Pittsburgh Pirates at home, the Cubs managed to score 10 runs in the two games. The lack of offensive production led to a series loss for the Cubs.

Although it appears the team is adding a new face in the form of Luis Vazquez via his first call-up, there is one name that has been capturing the minds of Cubs fans everywhere. Over the last nine games for the Iowa Cubs, Brennen Davis is putting on a show. Davis is 12-for-26 with 15 runs scored, seven home runs, and 15 RBIs in that time period. Those numbers are an addition to the graphic from Saturday with his performance on Sunday against the Syracuse Mets.

With this latest hot stretch, Davis is now slashing .270/.442/.667 in 23 games at Triple-A. Davis has scored 20 runs, added a double, hit eight home runs and 21 RBIs, all while taking 15 walks. Davis is playing at a high level now that he is healthy. There is no time better than the present to give the Cubs organization's former top prospect a call to the show.

On Saturday, Davis went 4-for-5 with a grand slam, another home run, and a double while driving in five runs. He is reminding everyone just how good he is when he is fully healthy, which has not been able to say often over the last few seasons sadly.

Cubs, Now is the Time!

With his impressive stretch recently and overall strong body of work with the Iowa Cubs, it feels like giving Davis a chance in the majors is due. He would've likely debuted in 2023 if not for the number of injuries he's faced over the past few seasons. Now, with a fully healthy player on their hands, the Cubs could receive a spark from a largely unexpected place.

In Spring Training, we wrote about Davis and how a healthy version of the former top prospect could be a wildcard for the Cubs in 2024. Now, that exact topic is coming into focus with an ice-cold offense at the MLB level and a red-hot Davis down in Iowa.

With Ian Happ's recent production leaving a lot to be desired, adding a player like Davis to play a little corner outfield and serve as a designated hitter could be a quality move. The Cubs are going to need to find help from within while teams still figure out whether they are pretenders or contenders. Why not give a player who was once considered a huge part of the future a chance?

Brennen Davis is red-hot. The Cubs' offense is quite the opposite. Pick up the phone, Jed. The time is now to get Davis to the majors.
