Braves Announce Sean Murphy Injury Update

The Atlanta Braves announced an injury update on catcher Sean Murphy on Friday.

The Braves have been without catcher Sean Murphy since May 10. He is currently on the 60-day injured list with a fractured left middle finger.

Murphy, the team primary backup catcher, has been limited to four games this season. In those games he is slashing .071/.071/.071 with one hit and six strikeouts in 14 at bats.

He is normally an above average batter with a career OPS of .748.

That is a great bat to back up your starting catcher, and the Braves seem to be getting him back soon.

The Braves announced today on social media that Murphy begins a rehabilitation assignment with the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers on Friday night.

Murphy could be back with Atlanta this upcoming week.

Atlanta has gone through a lot of catchers this season with injuries to Murphy and Drake Baldwin.

The team's current backup catcher is Joey Bart.

Bart is hitting .213/.286/.372, a .658 OPS, with four home runs, 14 RBIs and 29 strikeouts. While his performance has been good for his position, he will likely be moved following Murphy's reinstatement.
